"An eclectic mix of classical, opera, musical theatre, parlour songs and the best from the masters of popular song." Originally a Sunday Morning slot, this show was first presented by Eric Robinson (b.1908-d.1974) until retirement due to his ill health in 1971. The show was moved to Sunday evenings in 1994. Since then we have heard Richard Baker, David Jacobs, Hugh Scully and Sheridan Morley (b.1941 d.2007). Alan Titchmarsh compered from 2007. The programme regularly features music from acclaimed composers including Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Handel, Edward Elgar and Edvard Grieg. More recently it has featured recordings from popular artistes such as The Carpenters and Frank Sinatra. |
