Danny Baker Born in 1957, Londoner Danny's first media appearance was on LW in 1977, followed later by a review programme on TVam. He broadcast a regular show on GLR radio in 1988. He presented 'Win Lose or Draw' on British television from 1990 to 1993 as well as presenting 'Sportscall' and '606' on BBC Radio 5. He is well known as the 'Daz Man' as he starred in advertisements promoting the virtues of a washing Machine powder. He was offered Dave Lee Travis's spot on Radio 1 by Matthew Bannister and commenced at R1 with a 150,000 contract . His first weekend show was on 30th October 1993. The show had lost 700,000 listeners by Sept 1994. and was aired Saturdays only from Nov 1994 (Sundays then by Simon Mayo). Danny broadcast standing up and his show included Paul Merton, singer Bryan Ferry, Keith Chegwin and a segment involving an alligator. Said in Sept 94 that he had offered his resignation three times but was given a further twelve-month contract. His show continued until September 21st 1996. Can now be heard on Local BBC Radio London 94.9, presenting the daily breakfast show. |
