  Steve Lamacq

Steve joined Radio 1 in September 1993 as co-presenter of The Evening Session with Jo Whiley, which he described as "a terrific, scary, exhilarating, fun job". Since February 1997 Steve has been the sole presenter of The Evening Session Monday to Thursdays (this show began in 1991).

Former New Musical Express journalist Steve gained a reputation for discovering new bands. He was teamed up with Jo Whiley and their bond was a love of 'music and cider' said Jo in 2000.

The list of bands championed by the Evening session includes Nirvana, Blur, Travis, Radiohead, Oasis and more recently Coldplay and The Vines.

His broad indie/alternative/rock  music shows have been broadcast from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland often including live sessions.

Besides his eclectic but accessible mix, Monday nights incorporated documentaries covering subjects such as the legalisation of cannabis and the impact music has on advertisements.

In 2000, Lamacq's show was awarded 'Best Radio Show' at the NME Premier Awards.

Radio 1 announced in 2002 that it intended to replace the Tuesday to Thursday Evening Session show with a more broad-based music show, however the Monday Lamacq Live show would remain.
