Born in 1973, Nemone Metaxas, the gravelly-voiced DJ's big break came when her voice was put to good use to do voice trails and adverts; she soon landed her own show - first on Kiss in Leeds and then at Galaxy FM in Manchester.
In 1999 Nemone became the Greater Manchester 400 metres champion.
In 2000 she switched to Radio 1. She was offered early breakfasts and was then (October) promoted to Mark Goodier's Saturday breakfast show. She filled in as maternity cover for Jo Whiley.
In summer 2000, Nemone provided the warm-up for Chris Moyles on his One Big Belly tour.
In 2001 she apologised after Ash lead singer Tim Wheeler swore on air.
Nemone took over from Jamie Theakston and Emma B's show, in 2001. Saturday & Sunday 1-3pm. In January 2004 she moved from her weekend slot to early breakfast five days a week, until she left the station in September 2005 for a nightly show on BBC 6 music.
